Visit the shelter — bring your ID, be at least 20 years old, and bring your own carrier or leash
- Visit the Chiayi County Animal Protection Education Park in Minxiong Township during open hours
- Applicants must be at least 20 years old and bring a government-issued ID
- Bring your own dog cage or leash — the shelter does not provide transport equipment

Browse and select your animal
- Browse the dog and cat areas freely and choose an animal
- You can check available animals in advance at ldcc.cyhg.gov.tw

Complete the adoption application
- Fill out adoption paperwork at the office

Complete animal registration
- Microchip implantation, pet registration, and rabies vaccination are required by law
- ⚠️ Fee notice: Adopting an un-neutered animal: a pet registration fee of NT$100 applies. Adopting an already-neutered animal: no registration fee, adoption is free
- If a vet determines the animal is too young or otherwise unfit for neutering, registration, or vaccination at the time of adoption, the adopter must arrange these procedures at a veterinary clinic within the required period

Take your pet home safely
- Dogs: bring your own leash or carrier — none provided by the shelter
- Cats: bring a hard-sided carrier to prevent escape during transport

Legal obligations after adoption
- Spay/neuter: required by law — if the animal cannot be neutered for medical reasons, an official exemption declaration signed by a licensed vet must be submitted
- Annual rabies vaccination: required each year
- Microchip registration: must be completed within 4 months of adoption
- Dogs must be leashed in public at all times
