⚠️ The following is compiled from the Hualien County Animal and Plant Disease Prevention Office's official adoption page (acdc.hl.gov.tw). All visits are strictly by prior telephone appointment. Do not arrive without booking — you will not be admitted. Call: (03) 842-1452.

1. Call to book a time slot and confirm directions
   • Call (03) 842-1452 to book one of four 1-hour slots per day, Tuesday to Saturday
   • Confirm directions — search "花蓮縣狗貓躍動園區" by name in your map app rather than using the address
   • Browse available animals in advance at pet.gov.tw or on the shelter's Facebook page
   • Optionally complete the pre-adoption self-assessment form to reflect on your readiness and living situation
2. Arrive at the park and register at reception
   • Bring your government-issued ID (must be at least 20 years old), a leash (for dogs) or hard-sided carrier (for cats)
   • Drive if possible — you will need a vehicle to transport your pet home
   • Register at the reception desk — staff will walk you through the adoption process
3. Complete the self-assessment form
   • Fill out the self-assessment form to confirm your home environment, time commitment, and household situation
4. Tour the dog kennels and cat building — interact with the animals
   • Staff will guide you through the dog and cat areas
   • Dog kennels connect directly to outdoor grass areas — you can observe dogs moving freely and naturally
   • Choose the animal you would like to adopt
5. Complete the adoption evaluation and paperwork
   • Complete the adoption declaration and adoption guidelines receipt
   • Submit a photocopy of your ID (age 20+)
   • Complete pet registration application and rabies vaccination
   • Adoption is free of charge (a NT$100 fee applies for pet ownership transfer registration)
6. Legal obligations after adoption
   • Spay/neuter: required by law unless a licensed vet provides a medical exemption
   • Annual rabies vaccination: required each year
   • Microchip registration: must be completed within 4 months of adoption
   • Dogs must be leashed in public at all times; dogs in public spaces must be accompanied by someone aged 7 or older; aggressive dogs must be accompanied by an adult
   • If you can no longer care for the animal, return it to the shelter in person — do not abandon

✂️ Hualien County Spay/Neuter Subsidy (higher rate for shelter adopters)
Animals adopted from the Hualien County Dog & Cat Leaping Park qualify for an enhanced spay/neuter subsidy: NT$600 for males, NT$1,500 for females (higher than standard rates for privately owned pets). Eligibility: household registration in Hualien County, completed microchip registration, and valid rabies vaccination within 1 year. Check acdc.hl.gov.tw for current details.
