Adoption Process

⚠️ The following is compiled from the Taipei City Animal Protection Office's official website. Requirements may vary by animal or policy update. Contact the shelter to confirm before visiting: (02) 8791-3254.

  1. Complete the online pet owner course (required for dog adoptions)
    • Anyone adopting a dog must first complete at least 1 hour of online education covering owner responsibility, animal welfare, and pet care at Taipei E-University's Fur Baby Academy (elearning.taipei/mpage/)
    • This requirement is not mandatory for cat adoptions but is recommended
  2. Visit the shelter and choose your animal
    • Visit the shelter during open hours and browse the dog kennel or cat room freely
    • Select an animal you'd like to adopt from the candidates available
  3. Pre-adoption consultation
    • Receive a consultation with shelter staff covering the animal's habits and care requirements
    • Staff may arrange a home visit if deemed necessary
  4. Complete the application and ID verification
    • Fill out the Taipei City Animal Adoption Application form
    • Present government-issued ID for verification — applicants must be at least 18 years old
  5. Veterinary health check
    • A vet will conduct a health check on your chosen animal
    • For dogs: microchip implantation, pet registration, and rabies vaccination are completed at this step
    • The vet will brief you on the animal's health status before you leave
  6. Take your pet home safely
    • Dogs: secure with a leash or place in an appropriate carrier for transport
    • Cats: use a hard-sided carrier to prevent escape or injury during transport
