⚠️ Tamsui Animal Shelter follows the same adoption policies as all other New Taipei City public shelters. The following is compiled from the New Taipei City Animal Protection and Epidemic Prevention Office's official resources. Contact the shelter to confirm before visiting: (02) 2626-7558.

1. Visit the shelter and choose your animal
   • The shelter is open weekdays only (Monday to Friday) — do not visit on weekends
   • Browse available animals in advance at act-adopt.ahiqo.ntpc.gov.tw or the shelter's Facebook page "淡水動物之家"
   • Browse the dog and cat areas freely and notify staff once you have chosen an animal
2. Complete the application and ID verification
   • Bring a government-issued ID card or driver's license — applicants must be at least 20 years old
   • Complete the adoption application form and any supporting documents
3. Complete animal registration
   • Staff will assist with microchip implantation (if not yet chipped), pet registration, and rabies vaccination
   • Adoption is free of charge
   • You will receive the "Love You Forever" Platinum Pet Card at the time of adoption
4. Take your pet home safely
   • Dogs: bring a leash or appropriate carrier
   • Cats: bring a hard-sided carrier to prevent escape during transport
   • The shelter is on a mountain road — driving or taking a taxi is strongly recommended
5. Legal obligations after adoption
   • Spay/neuter: required by law unless a licensed vet provides a medical exemption
   • Annual rabies vaccination: required — free for life with Platinum Card at any New Taipei City shelter or Animal Protection Office
   • Microchip registration: must be completed within 4 months of adoption
   • Dogs must be leashed in public at all times

🛡️ "Love You Forever" Platinum Pet Card Benefits
Issued at the time of adoption, this card provides lifetime benefits including:

• Lifetime free annual rabies vaccination at any New Taipei City shelter or Animal Protection Office
• One free dose of internal, external, and heartworm preventive medication (given at time of adoption)
• One year of free basic vaccinations (administered at time of adoption)
• Lifetime waived consultation fees at over 150 partner veterinary clinics across New Taipei City
• Free public veterinary phone consultation within the first 6 months after adoption

🛡️ New Taipei City Spay/Neuter Subsidy (higher rates for shelter adoptions)
Animals adopted from New Taipei City's public shelters qualify for an enhanced spay/neuter subsidy: NT$1,000 for males, NT$2,000 for females. Original adoption receipt and pet certification card required. See neuter.ntpc.gov.tw for details.
