Visit the shelter and choose your animal
- Visit during open hours and browse the dog and cat areas freely
- You can also browse available animals in advance on the New Taipei City adoption platform at act-adopt.ahiqo.ntpc.gov.tw
- Once you have chosen an animal, notify a staff member

Complete the application and ID verification
- Bring a government-issued ID card or driver's license — applicants must be at least 20 years old
- Complete the adoption application form and any supporting documents

Complete animal registration
- Staff will assist with microchip implantation (if not yet chipped), pet registration, and rabies vaccination
- Adoption is free of charge

Take your pet home safely
- Dogs: bring a leash or appropriate carrier
- Cats: bring a hard-sided carrier to prevent escape during transport

Legal obligations after adoption
- Spay/neuter: required by law unless a licensed vet provides a medical exemption
- Annual rabies vaccination: required each year
- Microchip registration: must be completed within 4 months of adoption
- Dogs must be leashed in public at all times
🛡️ New Taipei City Spay/Neuter Subsidy (higher rates for shelter adoptions)
Animals adopted from New Taipei City's public shelters qualify for an enhanced spay/neuter subsidy at participating veterinary clinics: NT$1,000 for males, NT$2,000 for females (standard rates for privately owned pets are lower). The original adoption receipt and pet certification card are required to apply. See neuter.ntpc.gov.tw for details.
🏨 Pet Boarding Service (Banqiao shelter only)
Adopters who hold a New Taipei City shelter Platinum Pet Card may book short-term boarding at Banqiao Animal Shelter when traveling. Reservations must be made at least 3 days in advance by calling (02) 8966-2158.
