Visit the shelter and choose your animal
- Visit Shoushan Animal Protection Education Park during open hours
- Bring a government-issued ID (minimum age generally 20 — confirm by phone)
- Browse the dog and cat areas freely and choose an animal

Complete the adoption application
- Fill out the adoption application form and any required declarations at the office
- Present your ID for staff verification

Complete animal registration
- Staff will assist with microchip implantation and pet registration
- Adoption is free of charge

Arrange spay/neuter at a partner clinic
- The Kaohsiung City Animal Protection Office publishes a list of partner veterinary clinics for post-adoption spay/neuter with a government subsidy — ask staff for the current list at the time of adoption
- If the animal has not yet been spayed/neutered, it must be completed within the required period after adoption

Take your pet home safely
- Dogs: bring a leash or appropriate carrier
- Cats: bring a hard-sided carrier to prevent escape during transport
- Driving or taking a taxi is recommended — the shelter is located within the Shoushan hillside park and involves a short walk from public transport

Legal obligations after adoption
- Spay/neuter: required by law — Kaohsiung City also runs an online exemption reporting system for pets that cannot be neutered for medical reasons (livestock.kcg.gov.tw)
- Annual rabies vaccination: required each year
- Microchip registration: must be completed within 4 months of adoption
- Dogs must be leashed in public at all times
