Visit the shelter — bring your ID and be at least 20 years old

- Applicants must be at least 20 years old and bring a government-issued ID

- Browse the dog and cat areas freely and choose an animal
- You can also check available animals in advance on the national adoption platform at pet.gov.tw

- Fill out adoption application forms at the office

Complete animal registration
- Dogs: microchip implantation, pet registration, and rabies vaccination are required
- Cats: microchip implantation, pet registration, and rabies vaccination are guided and encouraged
- Adoption is free of charge

Legal obligations after adoption
- Spay/neuter: required by law unless a licensed vet provides a medical exemption
- Annual rabies vaccination: required each year
- Microchip registration: must be completed within 4 months of adoption
- Dogs must be leashed in public at all times
🛡️ Pet Insurance Subsidy for Hard-to-Adopt Dogs
Taitung County Animal Disease Prevention Office provides a first-year pet insurance subsidy to encourage the adoption of dogs that are harder to place, including:
- Large dogs weighing 35kg or more
- Dogs who have been in the shelter for over 2 years
- Other dogs the shelter designates as hard to place
