Visit during adoption processing hours and choose your animal
- Visit the shelter during adoption processing hours — not just general viewing hours, which are different (see Hours section above)
- You can browse available animals in advance on the shelter's Facebook page (facebook.com/nantou.animal.protect) or at pet.gov.tw
- Browse the dog and cat areas freely and choose an animal
- Bring a government-issued ID

Complete the adoption paperwork
- Fill out the adoption application form and any required documents at the office

- Staff will assist with microchip implantation, pet registration, and rabies vaccination
- Adoption is free of charge

Take your pet home safely
- Dogs: bring a leash or appropriate carrier
- Cats: bring a hard-sided carrier to prevent escape during transport

Legal obligations after adoption
- Spay/neuter: required by law unless a licensed vet provides a medical exemption
- Annual rabies vaccination: required each year
- Microchip registration: must be completed within 4 months of adoption
- Dogs must be leashed in public at all times
✂️ Nantou County Spay/Neuter Subsidy
Eligibility: residents aged 18+ with household registration in Nantou County whose pets are kept within the county and have completed pet microchip registration. Bring your pet, ID, and personal seal to a contracted partner veterinary clinic to complete the procedure. Apply for the subsidy within 14 days of surgery. The 2026 program runs until May 31, 2026 — limited spots, first come first served. Check adcc.nantou.gov.tw for the latest program announcements.
