Visit the shelter — bring your ID and be at least 20 years old
- Visit Tainan City Animal Shelter Shanhua Station or Wanli Station during open hours
- Applicants must be at least 20 years old and bring a government-issued ID

Browse and select your animal
- Browse the dog and cat housing areas freely and choose an animal
- If the animal has reached its public notice period or is a young animal, you may proceed with adoption immediately
- If the animal has not yet reached its public notice period, you may make a reservation — the adoption must be completed within 7 days of reservation or the reservation is automatically cancelled

Complete the adoption application
- Fill out the adoption application form at the office and present your ID document

Microchip implantation and pet registration
- Staff will assist with microchip implantation and pet registration — free of charge

Free veterinary treatments
- Free rabies and 7-in-1 combination vaccination
- Free internal and external parasite treatment

Spay/neuter surgery — completely free
- If the animal can be spayed/neutered at time of adoption: make an appointment and the shelter will schedule the surgery within 7 days — you take the animal home after the surgery is completed
- If the animal is too young or otherwise not ready for surgery at time of adoption: you may take the animal home and return to the shelter to arrange surgery once the animal has completed its vaccinations and is in good health
- Spay/neuter surgery is completely free — adoption costs NT$0 in all cases

Legal obligations after adoption
- Spay/neuter: required by law unless a licensed vet provides a medical exemption
- Annual rabies vaccination: required each year
- Microchip registration: must be completed within 4 months of adoption
- Dogs must be leashed in public at all times
