1. Visit the shelter — bring your ID and be at least 20 years old
   • Visit the Taitung County Stray Animal Shelter during open hours
   • Applicants must be at least 20 years old and bring a government-issued ID
2. Browse and select your animal
   • Browse the dog and cat areas freely and choose an animal
   • You can also check available animals in advance on the national adoption platform at pet.gov.tw
3. Complete the adoption paperwork
   • Fill out adoption application forms at the office
4. Complete animal registration
   • Dogs: microchip implantation, pet registration, and rabies vaccination are required
   • Cats: microchip implantation, pet registration, and rabies vaccination are guided and encouraged
   • Adoption is free of charge
5. Legal obligations after adoption
   • Spay/neuter: required by law unless a licensed vet provides a medical exemption
   • Annual rabies vaccination: required each year
   • Microchip registration: must be completed within 4 months of adoption
   • Dogs must be leashed in public at all times

🛡️ Pet Insurance Subsidy for Hard-to-Adopt Dogs
Taitung County Animal Disease Prevention Office provides a first-year pet insurance subsidy to encourage the adoption of dogs that are harder to place, including:

• Large dogs weighing 35kg or more
• Dogs who have been in the shelter for over 2 years
• Other dogs the shelter designates as hard to place
