Kaohsiung City Animal Protection Education Park (壽山)

Kaohsiung City Shoushan Animal Protection Education Park (高雄市壽山動物保護教育園區) is operated by the Kaohsiung City Animal Protection Office (高雄市動物保護處). Located at No. 350, Wanshou Road, Gushan District — within the Shoushan Animal Care Complex near the Shoushan hiking trail entrance — it is one of Kaohsiung City's two public animal shelters, alongside the Yanchao Animal Care Park. The facility was established in 2000 under the name Animal Housing and Quarantine Center, and was renovated and renamed in 2009 to reflect an expanded mission in animal welfare education, adding an audiovisual room, display exhibits, a dedicated cat shelter, and a medical treatment room. 1. Visit the shelter and choose your animal
   • Visit Shoushan Animal Protection Education Park during open hours
   • Bring a government-issued ID (minimum age generally 20 — confirm by phone)
   • Browse the dog and cat areas freely and choose an animal
2. Complete the adoption application
   • Fill out the adoption application form and any required declarations at the office
   • Present your ID for staff verification
3. Complete animal registration
   • Staff will assist with microchip implantation and pet registration
   • Adoption is free of charge
4. Arrange spay/neuter at a partner clinic
   • The Kaohsiung City Animal Protection Office publishes a list of partner veterinary clinics for post-adoption spay/neuter with a government subsidy — ask staff for the current list at the time of adoption
   • If the animal has not yet been spayed/neutered, it must be completed within the required period after adoption
5. Take your pet home safely
   • Dogs: bring a leash or appropriate carrier
   • Cats: bring a hard-sided carrier to prevent escape during transport

6. Legal obligations after adoption
